Chamoy Citrus Spritz

Chamoy Citrus Spritz

Recipe of the Week: Chamoy Citrus Spritz

When we make mocktails at home, the issue is usually structure, not sweetness, having them end up blah. Sparkling water on its own doesn’t last, and straight juice gets blah quickly. What helps is having one prepared element in the fridge that can be used more than once during the week.

This recipe is built around that idea. You make a small batch of chamoy from the mix, keep it cold, and use it as the base for a simple citrus spritz.

What Is Chamoy and How Do I Use It?

We keep our chamoy mix around for adding pizzazz to our drinks or fruit or candy. It's a chile-forward mix with salt and acid that gives drinks and snacks something extra. We enjoy using it in sparkling waters or citrusy drinks as well as spooned over the top of mango or other cut fruit. Making a small batch ahead means there's always something a little special waiting for us in the fridge back home.

Ingredients (Chamoy Base)

Ingredients (One Drink)

  • Ice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh citrus juice (lime, or lime with a little orange)
  • 1–2 tablespoons prepared chamoy
  • 2–3 tablespoons mango or pineapple juice
  • Sparkling water

Instructions

  1. Make the chamoy: Combine the chamoy mix and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and add lime juice to taste. Let cool completely, then transfer to a jar and refrigerate.
  2. Build the drink: Fill a glass with ice. Add the citrus juice, chamoy, and fruit juice. Top with sparkling water and stir gently to keep everything mixed.
  3. Optional rim: Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip lightly into the prepared chamoy before building the drink.

Kitchen Notes

  • The chamoy keeps well in the fridge for up to one week.
  • We usually make it once and use it for several drinks rather than starting from scratch each time.
  • It also works stirred into plain sparkling water or spooned over cut fruit.
