Skillet of browned ground pork with wilted green cabbage and onions, finished with apple and a light gloss, overhead view.

Crispy Pork & Cabbage Skillet

Good food does not have to be expensive or complicated. A pound of ground pork, half a head of cabbage, and the right seasoning can feed a family and still taste like something special. This skillet dinner proves it.

With a little heat and a spoonful of Shawhan Farms Betty’s Best Sweet & Smoky BBQ Seasoning, you get all the depth of slow barbecue in one pan. The pork browns, the cabbage softens, and a quick splash of apple cider vinegar and diced apple brings just enough sweetness to round it out. It is smoky, tender, and full of flavor without bottled sauce or fancy cuts of meat.

That is what sets Shawhan Farms blends apart. Every seasoning is crafted in small batches for balanced flavor and real depth, using only quality herbs and spices with no fillers or additives. It is seasoning built for real kitchens where flavor matters.

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Shawhan Farms Betty’s Best Sweet & Smoky BBQ Seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or neutral oil
  • 4 cups chopped green cabbage (about half a head)
  • 1 small onion, sliced thin
  • 1 small apple, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Brown the pork: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high. Add the pork and break it up as it cooks. Let it rest briefly between stirs so it can brown and form crisp bits. Season with Sweet & Smoky BBQ Seasoning and salt.
  2. Add the vegetables: Stir in onion and cabbage. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage softens and begins to brown, about 8 minutes.
  3. Finish bright: Stir in the apple and vinegar. Cook a few minutes longer, until the apple softens slightly and the vinegar reduces. Taste and adjust seasoning.

Kitchen Tip

Cooking the pork long enough to brown adds deep flavor, while the cabbage and apple bring their own natural sweetness. Together they give this skillet the taste of barbecue without the cost or time of a smoked roast.
