Black Bean dip with cheese, herbs sour cream and onion with chips on the side

Loaded Taco Bean Dip - Summer Snacks for the Family

How Do You Make a Taco Dip That Stands Out?

Start with a bean base that has some real substance. Black beans give this version more body and a little more structure than a softer pinto-style dip, so it works well as a snack, a lunch component, or a make-ahead dish for a group.

This version also gives you some flexibility. Sour cream keeps it classic. Greek yogurt gives it a little more protein. Shawhan Farms Beau’s Original Taco Seasoning brings the chile, garlic, and spice that make it taste like more than beans with toppings.

Why This Works

Black beans give the dip more substance, and the creamy base holds everything together. Greek yogurt is a simple way to bump up the protein if you want it. Our taco blend brings the familiar flavor that makes the whole thing stand out.

Our taco blend works especially well here because it gives you that familiar taco flavor in a more balanced, premium blend that is convenient to keep on hand. It also works well in dips, beans, potatoes, eggs, and quick lunches.

Kitchen Notes

If you want a smoother base, mash the beans more thoroughly before mixing everything together.

This keeps well in the fridge, so it is easy to make ahead.

Kitchen Variations

  • use pinto beans if you want a softer, more classic bean-dip texture
  • use Greek yogurt when you want a little more protein
  • add corn for a little sweetness
  • make individual cups instead of one larger dish
  • use it as a spread for wraps the next day

Hot Dip Option

Spread the dip into a baking dish, top with extra shredded cheese, and bake at 375 F until hot and bubbly. Add the lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and green onion after it comes out of the oven.
