Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp seasoned salt
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tsp Dap’s Blackened Seasoning
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 3–4 drops hot sauce (to taste)
  • 2 cups waffle mix
  • 1 1/4 cups water (or as directed on mix)
  • About 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 tbsp butter (for serving)

Directions

  1. Rinse chicken and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, whisk eggs and milk together. Soak chicken in the mixture for 5–10 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, seasoned salt, pepper, and blackened seasoning.
  4. Mix maple syrup with hot sauce to your preferred heat level and set aside.
  5. Prepare waffles according to package instructions.
  6. Heat oil in a skillet to 350°F.
  7. Remove chicken from milk mixture and coat thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  8. Fry chicken in batches, avoiding overcrowding, until golden brown and fully cooked through, turning once.
  9. Transfer to a rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
  10. Season lightly with additional blackened seasoning if desired.
  11. Serve chicken over waffles, topped with butter and the maple hot sauce drizzle.
