These crispy potato latkes bring together simple ingredients with bold seasoning. Grated potatoes and onion are mixed with flour and baking powder, then fried until golden and crisp. Shawhan Farms seasoning adds depth, letting you adjust the flavor depending on what you’re pairing them with.
Serve them warm with sour cream or applesauce, or alongside your favorite mains for a crisp, savory addition to the table.
Ingredients
- 2 large russet or gold potatoes, grated and drained
- 1 medium yellow or white onion, diced
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp gluten-free flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1–2 tsp Shawhan Farms Poultry Seasoning
- 1–2 tsp Shawhan Farms Chorizo Seasoning
- 1–2 tsp Shawhan Farms Steak Seasoning
- Oil for frying (sunflower or safflower recommended)
Directions
- Wash, peel, and grate the potatoes. Place them in a cheesecloth and wring out as much moisture as possible.
- In a large bowl, combine grated potatoes, onion, egg, flour, seasoning of choice, baking powder, and salt. Mix until well combined.
- Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat.
- Scoop about 1/4 cup of the mixture and form into patties about 1/2 inch thick.
- Carefully place patties into the hot oil and fry for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crisp.
- Transfer to a rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve warm with sour cream or applesauce.
